Sailing Program
Be the "Skipper" at the Del..
The Delawana Instructional Sailing Program provides participants
with the necessary skills and knowledge to confidently sail safely.
Participants are taught to independently sail a boat and receive
an award certifying them as "SKIPPER AT THE DEL." Lessons
focus on safety and skill development within a fun instructional
environment.
DAY 1
Participants will sail with an instructor in groups no larger
than four. During the voyage the instructor will get the participants
excited about sailing, and introduce them to the basic skills and
theory involved in safe sailing. Basic wind principles, terms such
as jibbing, tacking, hiking and operating parts such as tiller,
mainsail and centerboard will be discussed.
DAY 2
Participants will take part in a thorough instructional session
and at the completion will have the knowledge, skills, and confidence
to safely skipper a boat independently. Tipping, man overboard,
buoys and markers, and safe docking will be featured. At the end
of the day you will be certified "SKIPPER
AT THE DEL".
DAY 3
Certified Skippers will have the option of sailing independently
or may continue their instruction learning advanced boat handling,
sailing theory, and safety skills and methods. Areas covered include
rigging and derigging, knots, and racing.
Cost $75.00 per person for all
guests staying at the Delawana. Applicable taxes and service charge
