DELAWANA INN BLOG

Dear Delawana Inn,

I am sitting in a chalet up north taking in all that Ontario has to offer in the winter and my mind drifts to warmer weather and all that Ontario has to offer in the summer and of course I immediately travel to our favourite summer place: Delawana Inn! We love to travel and we have visited places all around the world but there really is no place like home. It’s so much easier and far less stressful to pack up the family and head north for a “staycation” that often supersedes other vacation destinations.

With Delawana’s amazing all inclusive rates, children stay free specials and single parent deals, why would you want to go anywhere else? Oh, did I mention the pristine setting, beautiful sunsets, superb food, exciting entertainment and more activities available then time permits? Let’s also not forget about the excellent VIP Kids Camp! Although my kids are past kids’ camp age now, I can tell you that they hold all of their camp memories very close to their hearts.

I always mean to send a note telling you how wonderful the Del is and how much we appreciate it year after year and as soon as we return home from our amazing time at the Del, we slip back into our daily routines and before we know it, we are planning our next Delawana vacation. As I sit here now enjoying a relaxing and refreshing afternoon in the splendour of the north, I can’t help but think it feels almost as good as when I am at the Delawana and I find myself reminiscing about how recharged I am when I return back to that life of daily routine and how wonderful it was to spend quality time with my children. Suddenly I return from my deep thoughts to realize just how much time has passed by and I can’t believe that we have gone to the Del every year for the past twelve years….twelve years!! I also can’t believe that my kids are now young men.

I remember going to the Delawana for the first time in the summer of 1999 with my two boys, who would have been 5 and 8 at the time. I was a little sceptical about travelling up north as a single parent with two young children and the thing that struck me the most was how at home, welcomed and safe we felt at the Del. If the children or I needed anything during our stay, we were happily accommodated. There were all types of families and friendly people everywhere as well as amazing staff. Any doubt that I felt about travelling alone with two children immediately washed away as soon as we arrived at the Del and I will never forget that. We had the time of our lives with all that is the Del, and all the guests who go each and every year and have built a family tradition like ours, know exactly what I am talking about…and we were hooked for life!

We continued this yearly tradition and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Over the years the kids and I have developed long lasting friendships that sustain outside of our Delawana world and the memories and wonderful times we have had the luxury of experiencing cannot be described in words. Life is busy for all of us but when you take the time for yourself and your family to truly get away to a place where you don’t have a care in the world, only then can you appreciate what really matters!

Fast forward to today, my boys are 19 and 16 and yes, they still want to go to the Delawana every summer (spring and fall too).  It’s amazing and it still gives us that quality time together that starts to slip as the children grow up and have their own life. This time away gives us back something that becomes increasingly difficult to hold on to and I am elated because of it. I am certain that my children will one day bring their own families to the Del and that the family tradition will carry on as it has for so many families because the Delawana has been there for more than 100 years allowing us to build and sustain these wonderful traditions. I look forward to continuing our Del vacation with my grandchildren, although I am still far too young for that right now, but judging how fast the past 12 years have gone by, I know it isn’t that far off! So as my mind drifts back to warmer days and fun at the Del, from my family to yours, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and look forward to many more years of spending time with a family we get to choose!
