Program Offers Some Mother Nature Education Honey Harbour, Georgian
Bay, Ontario... June 29, 2002 The Delawana Inn Spa & Conference Resort and the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre have formed a new partnership to establish an extensive fun-oriented, nature education and environment program for guests at the Inn this summer. The programs are offered as part of the New social and recreation
programming from June 26th to September 2nd and are available at
no additional charge to Inn guests. Experienced naturalists will be on site at the Delawana Inn six
days a week with a series of 22 different two-hour programs that
educate and entertain the entire family. A variety of programs such as Wet n' Scaly, Nature at Night, Forest
Wonders, Orienteering, as well as an adult evening kayak sure to
highlight the family vacation. The Wye Marsh is a significant national Wildlife area in Midland.
The Centre has developed an international reputation with the re-introduction
of the Trumpeter Swan, the largest waterfowl and once endangered.
Now over 50 swans call the Wye Marsh home, with another 104 swans
nesting throughout the southern Georgian Bay area in the summer.
Children at the Delawana also receive a free pass to visit the Centre.
This marks the 105th year for the Delawana Inn in operation as a
tourist destination area. More than 375 years ago, Samuel de Champlain,
the great French Explorer, set his ship against the rocks on Royal
Island -directly across from Delawana Inn. Overcome by the beauty
of the region, he paused in August 1815 and spent the remainder
of the summer in the Huron County (now known as Huronia), exploring
the shores of Georgian Bay. Travel demand for family vacations has prompted the resort to create a comprehensive package plan, as well as add a new on site facilitator to assist with activities and functions. The Family Tree Reunion Vacation package is available throughout the summer months and includes family cruises, a family tree booklet, a family photograph and more.
