Employment Tips, Policies & PerksTips It is always important to make a great first impression, and the interview is your chance to impress us. While you do not need to wear a three-piece suit, we ask that you look your best. No ball caps, ripped jeans or beach attire! The Delawana Inn Spa & Conference Resort has a Grooming Policy that helps us to exceed the expectations of our guests and promote a professional work environment. We ask all of our staff to follow specific guidelines when it comes to dress and hygiene. Please review these standards before submitting an application. Grooming guidelines for employees on the job should be followed while anywhere on the property and while attending an interview. Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes prior to your interview. You should come prepared for your interview with a copy of your résumé and at least two employer references. Be prepared to answer questions about your work history, education, hobbies and interests & remember to smile, relax and be yourself! Policies Making a Great First Impression We have a responsibility to be at our best and therefore we must maintain a neat and clean appearance. Each employee has an impact on the guest's experience. First impressions are important, as a guest does not always get to know you. To them you are The Delawana Inn Spa & Conference Resort. Each department will have their own strict standards to be followed with those listed below. Our minimum standards are: Hair Hair must be kept clean, neat and tidy while at work. Hair colours can be any natural hair tone such as blond, black, brown, red, and gray. Highlights must be of a natural tone and should be appropriate and conservative in style. For both males and females, long hair must be tied back at all times and off the face. No dreadlocks are allowed. Facial hair for males must be cleanly shaven or neatly trimmed prior to being hired. Facial hair may not be grown while employed by the Delawana. Shaven designs in hair are not permissible. Jewellery Jewellery, where safety is a concern must be removed. Where safety is not a concern jewellery must be limited to one watch, one necklace, and one ring per hand. Men and women may wear no more than one earring in each ear that is no larger than a dime. No other visible piercing are to be worn at any time on property (including but not limited to tongue, eyebrow, lips and/or nose). Tattoos Visible tattoos are prohibited anywhere on property. Long sleeve shirts and long pants must be worn to cover visible tattoos. Due to the varied clientele we serve we must cater to the most strict expectations. Uniforms All staff members are required to purchase the designated uniform of their department. The cost of the uniform will be deducted from your first two pay cheques in equal installments. Uniforms will be sold to employees at The Delawana's cost. A minimum of two uniforms per staff member is mandatory, some departments may require more. Uniforms must be clean and kept in new condition or staff may be charged for extra uniforms at a manager's discretion. You may be prevented from working if you show up for work not conforming to the uniform requirements. If your job is not one that requires a uniform, you must wear clothing appropriate for the job being performed. Clothing must be clean, wrinkle free, and in good condition. Personal hygiene such as regular bathing, use of deodorant and oral hygiene is expected. Perfume and cologne are to be used discreetly. Conduct As staff of the Delawana Inn we represent the Delawana both on the job and off. When we are anywhere in Honey Harbour we must conduct ourselves respectfully and maturely at all times. It is most important that all staff respect this in social situations in the bar and in the staff accommodation. It is also important that as a representative of the Delawana all staff members must respect our community and any community where the Delawana conducts business. The Delawana Inn has set a high standard for itself, which can only be achieved by maintaining high standards amongst all of it's staff. All municipal, provincial and federal laws must be adhered to at all time during your term of employment. Smoking Policy The Delawana Inn Spa & Conference Resort is a smoke free environment. Guests or employees are not permitted to smoke in any of our buildings or vehicles. In order to provide a healthy, comfortable and productive work environment, employees may smoke outside but only in designated areas that are out of sight of guests. Attendance Commitment is an important part of being a team. We expect our employees' attendance to be timely and reliable. Perks More than just a Pay Cheque!!! In addition to making our guest's stay as enjoyable as possible, we feel it is also necessary to ensure the staff are happy. The Delawana Inn offers these privileges to our staff. Please remember these are privileges and they may be revoked if abused.
