Delawana Gets Two Thumbs Up
Amy and family stayed at the Delawana Inn Spa & Conference Resort
in August 2004. Amy's comments were taken with permission from her
blog http://anybodysguess.blogspot.com/2004_08_01_anybodysguess_archive.html
It was a really awesome week! We swam and canoed and kayaked and
ate (too much) and walked and slept and read and made sand castles
and played mini golf and chilled out and I give the Delawana Inn
and Resort two very big Thumbs UP .Personally, I managed to read
two whole books. I got two massages at the Wanakita Spa. Jay and
I went for walks and a pontoon boat ride together. Sam actually
has a golf swing now. Monty had a blast at his caterpillars camp.
Lucy got fatter from all the lovely food. (Actually, I think we
got fatter!) Our room was really cool, with a screened in porch
overlooking the lake. It is a beautiful resort, tons of fun things
going on and really nicely taken care of. We would totally go again.
It was a great vacation and can I say that the only dishes I did
were four bottles a day in the bathroom sink? And two little loads
of laundry which was lovely because I put them in and then climbed
all by myself onto this big rock over the water and read my book?
And when we left in the morning our beds were made when we got back!
Whoopee! Now, of course the kids had their little flare ups and
I almost had a conniption fit when we went on this sunset cruise
with them because I could see monty falling overboard every five
minutes. But all in all, a fantastic time. The only things I forgot
to pack were my bathing suit and Sam's underwear. Which was no biggie
for me because that meant I got to go to a shop in Honey
Harbour and buy a new suit. And as for Sam, when you are eight
and can wear swimming trunks everyday, underwear are the last thing
you are worried about. The food was insane. Glorious buffets every
morning and evening, beautiful dining room with smart looking servers
who were very accommodating. As I was smothering my second breakfast
of belgian waffles and strawberries with fresh whipped cream I could
not help thinking how nice it would be to be rich. Except that you
would weigh three hundred pounds. We went on several kinds of boats-
pontoon, speed boat, cruise ship, kayak, canoe, paddle boat. It
was just the thing for jay to be able to sit on a bench and read
his Stephen Ambrose and think nothing of work for a week. Well,
it is back to life, back to reality right now and I can hear that
there is some dismantling going on in Monty's room right now so
I better go investigate. Have a great day, all

Mommy is Important at the Delawana
On returning home from
the Delawana, Amy re-counted a very special moment that she has
offered to share with our readers.
That reminds me. I
meant to blog about stars.
This little ditty is
called Mommy.
While we were on vacation
at the Delawana Inn, once the kids were hunkered down in our cabin
for the night, I would pull on Jay's big hooded sweatshirt and step
out for a moonlight walk to the main lodge. It had this huge room
(you know the kind, thick wood beams, stone fireplace, old black
and white pictures of Honey Harbour)
where there was a coffee and tea station set up 24 hours a day.
What a nice walk it was! Gravel crunching under my feet, the smell
of campfire, light from the buildings reflecting off the dark dark
lake. One beautiful cool night I was walking behind a little family.
There was a dad, about fortyish, and three kids. They
were talking about the dark and the frog that had gotten away from
them that day, when the littlest one of the three kids pointed up
to the sky and yelled, "Daddy look! Mommy's out!"The dad
was talking to the oldest kid and didn't respond. The little guy
piped up again. "Daddy! Mommy's out!"I wasn't sure what
he meant. I looked up. There were a thousand stars up there. Then
I got it. I had a lump in my throat even before the dad said, "You're
right, honey, there she is! She's the brightest star in the sky.
She's looking down at all of us and she is so happy that we are
having such a nice time down here!" He grabbed the little guy
with one arm, and scruffed the older boy's hair with his other hand.
His pony-tailed daughter leaned into him .I walked along, tears
in my eyes. I wanted to scoop up the lot of them in my arms and
rock them to sleep. I wanted to run back to the cottage and kiss
my own babies and my Jay and thank God I still get to be with them
every single day and be there for all the ups and downs, all the
crumbs and feasts, all the things that are part of this crazy life.
Instead I walked behind the family all the way to the lodge, silently
sending them good wishes, and sympathy, and encouragement. And thanks.
For turning a pleasant evening walk to fetch a cup of tea into a
moment I will never forget. Lucy fell asleep. So. Sweet. Night night.
Thanks
Amy, for sharing this special story with us. You have remined us
to cherish each and every moment.
